This unit is one of the units which is governed by the Laboratory of Climate-Smart Food Crop Production, Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security (ITAFoS). It is divided into two research areas; paddy-based research (Laman Penyelidikan Padi) and planting research for fertigation. These two sub-units were in the Ladang 10 (opposite the main entrance of the 12th, 14th, 15th and 16th College), UPM and is totally managed by Prof. Dr. Rafii bin Mohd Yusof as Head of Laboratory.
This unit is carrying out research related to the new varieties searching, plant breeding, plant genetics, disease resistance and yield enhancement.
Among the equipment available in the laboratory research are:
- Large glasshouse A (area of ​​8.736 ft2)
- Large glasshouse B (area of 5,936 ft2)
- Small glasshouse (5 units – 256 ft2 each)
- House for breeding (office and laboratories)
