PROGRAMME 1 : IMPROVEMENT AND SUSTAINABLE RICE PRODUCTION FOR FOOD SECURITY
The production of high yielding and quality rice varieties is the important step in developing the agriculture sector. Several research programs are presently conducted through conventional and molecular approaches to enhance yield and quality of rice for sustainable rice production in the changing environment. The project also provides facilities for conducting research and services for the public and agencies related to rice such as consultations and training workshops.

PROGRAMME 2 : PRODUCTION OF HIGH VALUE VEGETABLES UNDER PROTECTED CULTIVATION IN TROPICS
Environmental and health concerns have led to increasing used of fertigation for soilless culture crop production under protected environment. This will be achieved via a physiological evaluation of the performance of vegetables crops. There is now the potential to manipulate the chemical, physical and biological environment around roots with considerable precision. The interaction of root and shoots plays major role in the plant metabolism subjected to various external injuries such root stress, pest and disease intrusion and other related plant injuries that will disrupt water and nutrient translocation. Several research programs are presently conducted through breeding, physiology and crop production systems to enhance yield and quality of vegetables e.g. bean, tomato, chili and okra. The laboratory also provides facilities and infrastructure for conducting research and services for the public and agencies related to vegetables, such as consultations and training workshops.
