Event Title
Workshop on Molecular Detection of Foodborne Pathogens via PCR 2017
Date
30 Nov -0001 - 30 Nov -0001
Time
08.00 - 05.00
Location
Central Lab, Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security (ITAFoS), UPM
Event Summary
Rapid methods such as the Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) have been widely applied for microbial detection in food microbiology, clinical, and forensic sectors for a variety of tasks. The inexpensive and time-saving method targets a DNA sequence of a particular organism and amplifies it to create billions of its copy for detection. DNA is unique in each organism and none of the organism share the same DNA. Through PCR, accurate and specific identification of an organism is made feasible. PCR is now a common and important technique used in medical and biological research to determine the necessary downstream actions. In microbiology, PCR permits the detection of infectious agents and discrimination of non-pathogenic and pathogenic strains by virtue of specific genes. This workshop is open to those interested in PCR methods for the detection of foodborne pathogens.
