Workshop on "Mycotoxin Analysis Using HPLC"

21 - 23 August 2017 – A workshop on "Mycotoxin Analysis Using HPLC" was held for 3 days and was organized by the Laboratory of Food Safety and Food Integrity (FOSFI), Institute of Tropical Agriculture and Food Security (ITAFoS).

The workshop was conducted by 3 lecturers (from FOSFI) and 2 experienced HPLC trainers, namely Mr. Joseph Chan (from Team Medical & Scientific Sdn Bhd) and Tuan Haji Ismail Muit (a freelance HPLC trainer). A total of 18 participants comprising lecturers, staff and graduate students attended the workshop.

This workshop helped the participants to:

  • Understand simple principles for the differentiation of mycotoxin extraction methods.
  • Differentiate between IDL (Instrument Detection Limit) for LOD (Limit of Detection) and MDL (Method Detection Limit).
  • Identify the advantages and disadvantages of each of these methods.

Based on the feedback from the participants at the end of the workshop, the goals and objectives have been achieved where participants hope that such workshops will be held in the future.
